The automated flight plan systems do not provide accurate reporting about flight arrivals all the time, which was demonstrated on November 19, 2009 when the glitch in US air traffic control network caused flight delays across the nation. Unlike other tracking services that use centralized flight status data, ArrivedOK tracks one’s actual appearance in the destination airport using individual mobile phone status.

Frequent flyers across the Atlantic know that flights from US to UK in the winter can often arrive 1hr+ early due to tailwinds. This is the case when ArrivedOK may think it is Right Place, Wrong Time situation as described here:

If you turn on your phone in the expected destination but 30+ minutes earlier than your scheduled time, ArrivedOKs will not be delivered and you’ll get an error message.

One of our users suggested a workaround for that issue: you just deliberately set your arrival time in ArrivedOK an hour earlier than your planned arrival. This way you can signal your recipients about your precise landing time.

Another thing you can do is postponing to turn on your mobile phone until your scheduled arrival time, though in that case your recipients will get their alerts later than you land. However, if you want to contact your driver automatically when you arrive, the first hint fits you better.

Fortunately ArrivedOK is integrated with TripIt, so all I needed to do was just forwarding all my booking confirmation emails and e-tickets to TripIt and then importing those records to ArrivedOK. Follow these steps to do it:

1. You should have a registration with TripIt.com. If you don’t, go to their website and sign-up.
2. Forward all your booking confirmation emails and e-tickets to plans@tripit.com
3. Assuming you have an ArrivedOK account, sign-in to ArrivedOK and select New Record. You will see “Import from Tripit” link.
4. Click it and ArrivedOK will import all your new flights and will offer you to edit them. At that stage you can specify your cell phone to track and notifications for all of your flights. Or you can do this later.
5. Don’t forget to make the newly imported records ‘Active’ by clicking the button in the Records Menu.
